About me
I am a Postdoc in the Department of Physics of University of Torino, in the group of Prof. Miguel Onorato. I hold a position of Guest Investigator at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).
Check out some of my latest results on mixing by oceanic internal waves, published in Nat. Commun. and under review, and on the formalization of energy transfers in wave turbulence systems, published in J. Fluid Mech. and under review.
I obtained a BSc in Physics and a MSs in Physics of Complex Systems from Universita’ di Torino (Italy) in 2013 and 2015 and a PhD in Applied Mathematics jointly from Politecnico di Torino and Universita’ di Torino in 2019, under the supervision of Prof. Lamberto Rondoni and Prof. Eric Vanden-Eijnden. During my PhD, I spent 18 months at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, as a visiting PhD student. I then spent time as a postdoc at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of Rensselaer Polytechinc Institute with Prof. Yuri Lvov and at the Physical Oceanography Department at WHOI with Dr. Kurt Polzin.
I develop methods to investigate energy transport in physical systems with random wave fields, as well as the formation of extreme coherent events in these systems, with a focus on problems of physical oceanography. My research draws from concepts from statistical physics, turbulence, probability, optimization, and related fields, combining theory with numerical simulations and first-hand analysis of observations. I work in close collaboration with oceanographic groups (both observational and theoretical) - e.g. Kurt Polzin (WHOI), Friederike Pollmann (Alfred Wegener Institut), Arnaud Le Boyer (Scripps, UC San Diego) - and, as much as possible, my efforts spark from and are tested against analysis of real-world data.
